Chick

Looking at pictures of this last year, I came across this little dude:

“Look into the eyes of a chicken and you will see real stupidity. It is a kind of bottomless stupidity, a fiendish stupidity. They are the most horrifying, cannibalistic and nightmarish creatures in the world.”

-Werner Herzog

P.S. After the first comment, I thought I should clarify: I love chickens. It's just a crazy Werner Herzog quote. He said the same thing about me in 1987.

Art Show Highlight #2: The Hula Girl

We couldn't figure out how to turn the lights on. The house lights, I mean. Saturday night. We could figure out how to turn on the lights which illuminated our paintings, though, so it was fine.

And then someone went around, looking at paintings, while hula hooping. She actually was a part of the show, but this part was unplanned. [Is her name Lydia? I can't recall.]

The ghost of an imagined Professor Batty persona told me to snap this picture.

It's all a part of the art. That's what Andy would say, anyway. And he'd be right.

Robot Family Vacation

If only Uncle Rister hadn't have stuck his arm in front of brother's head!

The painting behind the robots is actually by my grandmother, Ruth Porter, who is good at stuff like that.

The robots are my daughter's toys. Well, okay, one of them is my toy.

Having a kid just gives me an excuse to buy lots of cool toys. Last week, I bought a rubber chicken, and they didn't give me a bag, so I walked down the street in downtown Madison, carrying my new, big rubber chicken by its neck. I passed a lady carrying a plant. I smiled. She didn't.

I think it would be nice if the robot family would continue their vacation on to another of Grandma Ruth's paintings. What do you think?

Corn Maze

My previous experience with mazes were only from movies: The Shining and Pan's Labyrinth. My previous experience with corn fields: Children of the Corn and Signs. So naturally, I was looking forward to it.

And a good time was had by all.

Eggs

Little Z planted a little tree for Christmas, and now that little tree has this tiny, little nest in it with three tiny, little eggs.

How to Fix an Accordion

First of all, you'll need a cat.

Update: The accordion repair was a success! All six formerly non-functional keys are now working! I could play in any key, If only I knew how to play the accordion...

The Church

I took Little Z to this church one Sunday morning. The people were very nice there. There was a lot of discussion about God and stuff.

Our Vet's Office

Whenever I see a building covered in ivy, I think, man, those This Old House guys would hate this place!

I have no idea why the cowboy photo, but I like it.

Garden Pictures

The garden is right outside the dining room window, which is a good thing. I don't forget to tend to it. (There are a few weeds.)

Onions:

Potatoes:

Tomatoes:

Spinach:

I haven't ever been able to grow spinach before. I planted it every year, and it just didn't come up. I love spinach! I guess I just needed a new garden. You know what they say about gardening: "location, location, location!"
