Me and My Broccoli Raab

Broccoli Raab is also known as rapini. This beautiful bunch is from our CSA. I love belonging to the community supported agriculture and all, but this one veggie is a little bizarre. I cooked it like spinach, and it tasted awful. Does anyone know how you're supposed to eat this thing? We still have a bunch left!

  2. From Wikipedia:
"Rapini has many spiked leaves that surround a green bud which looks very similar to a small head of broccoli. There may be small yellow flowers blooming from the buds, which are edible.
"The flavor of rapini has been described as nutty, bitter, pungent, and 'an acquired taste'."

Maybe you're not supposed to eat the leaves.

  3. You can eat the leaves. I really like it. When I made it, I sauteed it in a little olive oil and lemon juice, just until it got warm and turned really bright green. It's a little bitter, but I like a little bitter.

  4. I think I cooked it way too long. I burnt it, actually. I'll just cook it a little bit, next time.

I do think the leaves are the right part to eat, though.
