Old School

At the school where I substituted on Monday, there was a phone like this by the door in every room:

I tried to use it. No dial tone. Somebody then directed me to a modern telephone, back in the corner. Phew.

  1. Wow...that is an awesome old telephone. :) Too bad they aren't working anymore.

  2. So why is it there? To give the school that shabby chic look?

  3. Oh, and another question...how much trouble would you be in if you took one off the wall and mailed it to, say, North Carolina?

  4. I think that the phone was there because nobody ever took it down. I asked why it was there. No one knew. (At first, I naturally suspected that the teacher in the room was an old phone fan, but then I was told that every classroom had one. I looked into a few classrooms during lunch. They all had one.)

So, to answer your second question, Meg, I'm guessing they must be really difficult to take off of the wall. Otherwise, someone probably would have done it by now. So, the chances of my being able to pull one down and send it to you are pretty slim. I'll keep it in mind, next time, though. Maybe they would give them away? Who knows.
