Happy Independence Day!

  1. Okay, Ms. von Hathor, I hope you don't mind, but I have to pick on you and ask you a fairly obvious question. I'm only asking you because you are (I'm assuming) English, and I heard somewhere that 70% of English people don't know the answer to this question, which I found really hard to believe. So, here's the question:

From what country did we, the United States of America, declare our independence on July 4, 1776?

  2. Ours, innit. The Empire of 'I'll have that, thanks'.

I can't imagine what people they were asking though for only 30% to get it right.

  3. So, you're saying they asked the royal family, then?

I knew something odd was up with that survey. Good thing I re-did it, then!

Thanks for participating. I can now say that 100% of Brits surveyed know that the USA was once a part of Great Britain.

  4. I do love the muppets!

aren't you cheeky asking Ms. von Hathor such a question. I should say the survey was wrong! Maybe it was 70% of Americans who didn't know who we fought for independence from? Every British person I've ever met has known the US was a British Colony once... and yes, I've met a few. I do wonder who they surveyed???

funny, my "word verification" is tartly

  5. I'm truly an awful person for asking Ms. von Hathor such a question. I felt, however, from reading her blog, that she would have a thick skin and a good sense of humor.

    Perhaps all surveys are suspect.
