The Word Made Flesh

I found this blog about people who get literary tattoos. It's funny how many of them like e.e. cummings, The Giving Tree, and Le Petit Prince. What do these things have in common, really?

But my favorite is one to which I can relate:

"I write for the same reason I breathe; because if I didn't I would die." -Isaac Asimov

Actually, I would never have this tattooed on my arm. It seems grammatically incorrect.

I don't know that I would have words tattooed on me at all. I worry that they would seem dumb after a while. (What would, "Jesus loves you and so do I" look like after twenty years? What if the Jesus-like lover became a cynical bastard over time?) I don't worry at all about pictures or symbols, though. I have no explanation.

Sorry.

  1. If I had to get a tattoo, I'd get [current meme goes here]. I don't think I'd put it on my arm though, a tramp stamp would be more appropriate.

  2. I would probably be walking around with "I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record" tattooed on my lower back if I hadn't been seduced by symbols first. Thank God for small favors.

  3. I would also have been there with you, Gina! We would have matching "This will go down on your permanent record"'s . It would be --- ironic?

I remember when you got your tattoo on your back you took your shirt off in the C.U.B. to show me. (Not all the way off, of course, but half off so I could see your back.) It was awesome.

Christina, I don't think you have to get a tattoo. Yet. But if you do, make sure it says, "However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light." And that way, I'll feel like I've made a difference.

  4. I seem to have a history of taking my clothes off in public. I had to take off my pants in the dorm once because there was a bug crawling down my leg. And then there was the bee sting incident this summer. I never think about taking my clothes off, it just happens.

  5. I dare say, getting that tattooed right above my rear may give the wrong signals! ;)
