Out with the Old, in with the New

We said we wouldn't paint over the dark wood in the farmhouse kitchen, and I like the wallpaper- although I am told it is out of fashion.

Today, TLBP and I both suddenly thought, at the exact same time, that the handles on the cabinets and the drawer pulls were just ugly. Replacing them isn't too expensive, and it's easy as pie, so we went ahead and did it.

Here's before:

And after:

And then here's all the old hardware, eleven drawer pulls and eighteen cabinet handles:

Would anyone like to have these? They might look good painted, or even just on something different.

Next weekend, perhaps we will tackle the cottage cheese balls that pose as light fixtures in the mud room.

  1. I like the drawer pulls you picked out. (they're the same ones we picked for our kitchen ;-) )
    For the old ones: Craigslist!

  3. I've never grasped this concept of "mud room." What is it, exactly?

Your new hardware is much more modern!

  5. Dad, you can have them if you want them! I really like the new ones much better.

Gina, a mud room is a little room right inside the front door where you take off your coat, hat and shoes before going into the rest of the house. You leave your muddy boots in the mud room, and the rest of the house stays clean. I think they're pretty popular in farm houses, because farms are muddy!

  6. I don't have a use for them. I agree with Rose: try Craigslist.

  7. I like them both.
The old ones could make interesting accents on some storage furniture that needs an update. If you don't find any takers check to see if your local Habitat for Humanity can use them. Ours has a resell shop which is where I usually pick up hinges and hardware for box building.

  8. Good idea, Christina! I think we do have a habitat resale shop here. I'll send them on over.

It may be partly that we just wanted to make our kitchen reflect our own taste a little bit more, without doing anything major.
